Michael Edenhart-Pepe is a resident of Bucks County, PA where he lives with his wife Rosanne, 2 German Shepherds, 3 cats and 11 chickens. After a 30-year career as a human resources executive he has the good fortune to join the faculty of Penn State where he pursues a life-long passion of teaching at the college level. His other passion documented here is creative woodworking in the form of totems. These totem sculptures represent the aesthetic confluence of a lifetime of drawing, photography, carving walking sticks, woodworking, and observations of nature.     read more

Why Make Totems?
Late in the 1980's a microburst ripped through our farm about 20 miles southwest of Raleigh, NC. The storm severed many of the tulip poplar and pine trees surrounding the house. Interestingly, most of the trees were severed about 8 to 10 feet above the ground.  As recycling and repurposing were part of our lives on the farm and compelled by my love of woodworking, it was not long before I found a use for the storm-battered trees.
